Photoshop Effects: Pokeball

We have been covering a lot of tutorials that have been teaching you Photoshop Effects. Today, we are going to learn how to create a pokeball in photoshop. You will need the following images for this tutorial:Bubble, Fish, Pokeball, Water, Sun Brush, Water Brush
Step 1
First of all, open the bubble. Now open the water image and place it over the bubble.

Step 2
Now, on the water layer, you will press ctrl + t(transform) and right click the mouse to select the warp tool. With the warp tool selected, you will re-size the water in the round bubble shape as in the image below.

Step 3
Now, with the water in place, change the water layer blend to “Soft light”. This will make the bubble look transparent as if the water was always in it.

Step 4
Now open the pokeball, and with the selecting tool that you prefer( i like using the pen tool) cut out only the black middle line as the image below. After cutting it out you will copy it into the main file we are working on. Using the ctrl + t, re-size the line to the size of the bubble leaving only a little to give around the bubble.

Step 5
Now select only the white portion of pokeball and duplicate it. Erase what used to be in the selection you just duplicated. An easy way is to click on the avatar of the duplicated image; this will create a selection at the exact size of the duplicated object. With the round selection done, just click on the layer you want to erase and erase it. The image explains more.

Step 6
Now with the latest middle part layer we just created, change the blend mode from “normal” to “hard light”. You can now notice that we have a transparent middle. We could have just left it normal without any transparent effect, but I guess this detail adds to the overall image. Are you enjoying these Photoshop Effects?

Step 7
Now click on the first layer(bubble 01). Select the clone tool. Once you have selected the clone tool, you will press the alt button and with the left button of the mouse, click on the blue background near the bubble. Now let go of the alt and mouse button. Now clicking the left mouse button, pass it over the bubble part we will be eliminating, just as in the image. Do this on both the sides of the bubble.

Step 8
Click on the water layer. With the water layer selected, add a layer mask by clicking on the little square containing a circle. With the white brush, pass it over the parts of water we will be eliminating. If you do not know how to use the mask, you can simply use the eraser tool. Check the image below for more information.

Step 9
Create a new blank layer in between the bubble and water layers. Click the brush tool and select the water brush number 625. On the color pallet, select a soft blue color. Now that we have the water brush selected, just scroll the pixel size you will want and ply the brush on the new layer. Depending on the blue tones, you might need to click the brush twice. This will make the water brush darker. In case you have any doubts on how to achieve this, look at the image below.

Step 10
Now with the water splash layer selected, press ctrl+ t > right button of the mouse > warp. With the warp tool selected, go transforming the borders and ranging them to give a good perspective.

Step 11
Continue with the water splash layer selected and change the layer blend from normal to “Screen”.

Step 12
Open the fish image and select a few of them, create a layer for each one beneath the water layer. After doing so, lower the opacity to about 75%. The overall image with the fish will look like this.

Step 13
The main image is complete, now we will work on some lighting and color techniques to make the overall view more striking to the viewer. First we will create a new layer at the top of all created layers so far. Select a white color and open the sun brush N 2490. Apply it to the upper left of the image as if it were light beams hitting on the bubble from above just as in the image below. You are almost done this Photoshop Effects!

Step 14
With the light ray layer selected, go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur and move the Radius: Pixels to about 27,0. This will blur out the rays eliminating the sharp edges of the light.

Step 15
Now following the same steps as in the step 14, create a new layer above all layers, open the same sun brush but this time much smaller, add it to the left side of the bubble and Gaussian blur it to 10,0 radius pixels.

Step 16
Now create a new layer above all layers and select the gradient tool. Use the colors as in the specifications below.

Step 17
Now change the gradient layer blend from Normal to Soft Light.

Finished.
